Isle of Grain shipments HAVE been diverted. Remember that the US is facing massive shortages , made worse by Katrina and are dominating world markets from Africa and ME at present. Shippers can also make a very quick turn on re-directing cargoes.... not many of them savour the UK winter sunshine.

I share your gloomy prognosis, that idiot Johnson was displaying his gleaming false teeth on TV last week and di allow that we might have a 1 in a million cold snap and it would be "tight".

I always note that when pols say" we have it just about right" means they haven't a fucking clue.

The bottom line is the EU based energy suppliers bottom line, not our cold bottoms and paralysed industry etc., energy security ? ... oh we do have an inter-departmental committee ... who no doubt are kacking their collective pants as we speak.

Chris

Thanks very much for the analysis.

Can you give us an idea of what a 1 in 10 winter is? And do you have sense of what the sensitivity of domestic supply is to each degree celsius below a certain level? Is it linear?
